2020-07-25 20:02
amazing instrument, how is the instrument automated or used as a sequencer, is it all analogue?

hassan.hussain5
2020-07-25 20:03
@gndunning @sam you mention that you usually develop modules collaboratively, and I wondered what the process felt like to you, without the immediate input of the other, and if this has translated to the feel/function of the devices you each produced, relative to the ones you?ve made together?

robert.blazey1
2020-07-25 20:04
@gndunning @sam For the album, did you do any layering or editing to shape the compositions or were they still entirely live recordings?

sam
2020-07-25 20:05
:wave::skin-tone-3: Here?s the album: https://fandf.bandcamp.com/album/the-blow-volume-5

(Oh. Rob already replied. Sorry!)

niccolo.granieri
2020-07-25 20:07
This is sick! Omg I love the amount of modulation you can get from a spinning disk!

tdavis
2020-07-25 20:07
Is everything mechanical powered through human effort? Is that a design decision? Why is human effort important in your work?

niccolo.granieri
2020-07-25 20:09
Sam could you explore the results you got by using differently shaped holes in the disk? You mentioned them but didn?t tell us how they sounded if they sounded different!

Loved that @sam @gndunning - love the tangibility and fragility of the mechanical sound. Very different from the world of electronic sound.

gndunning
2020-07-25 20:52
They're just edits of improvisations. I don't think we would do overdubs but we've talked about closemiking different parts to mix down in order to make sure you can hear everything properly

sam
2020-07-25 20:53
Thanks. Do check out the aforementioned Sarah Kenchington if that?s something you like :)

weixler
2020-07-25 21:22
@joe.wright we played our live performance but something went wrong we were not included in the webinar 20 live channel. Luckily some people connected directly to our Zoom room.

joe.wright
2020-07-25 21:33
Hi @weixler, We weren?t prepared for the prizes to overrun that much, and then on top of that, we hadn?t thought about the fact that we cant restream zoom while in zoom without a bit more prep, and couldn?t set it up in time. Did you record the set? We?d happily share on the livestream channel!

joe.wright
2020-07-25 21:38
That would be ace!

weixler
2020-07-25 21:58
@joe.wright thanks, yes we will send the recording - so people can watch it on the NIME web site. we are happy some people where there directly in our Zoom room. thanks for the lovely reactions in the chat it was really encouraging for us.
