Abstract

Over the past decade e-textiles and paper-circuits have gained significant traction in the modern maker movement. These hybrid technologies blend electronics, coding, and contemporary fabrication processes with traditional crafts; artist-educators often deploy these techniques to build more inclusive STEAM classrooms.  In this workshop, we explore applications for hybrid technologies in NIME outreach initiatives. We provide a toolkit for future research and examples of both in-person and remote STEAM activities to support learning during the pandemic. Together, we will brainstorm ideas for a Sonic Arcade or STEAM Carnival of playful projects that invite kids to use crafts to make sound.
