Abstract:

The aim of this workshop is to map out ML-related critical and theoretical perspectives in NIME. We want to develop a research network to analyse the roles that AI/ML already plays at NIME and where it may play a role in future.

The workshop will consist of a 48h-collaboration on this map/network on an online whiteboard platform with asynchronous contributions and synchronous video meetings available for multiple time zones. Participants are also invited to send a short abstract and biography to be published on the workshop website: https://critical-ml-music-interfaces.github.io/. We have four themes you might like to focus on: musicological perspectives; social and cultural impact; design and research methods; diversity and ethics. Our shared whiteboards will be available before the meetings to start brainstorming contributions.
